Directed and edited by Georg Koszulinski, Glacier / No Glacier is an independent short film that features intentional video glitches as a primary narrative element. The director requested sound design work reminiscent of musique concrète and futurism to complement its experimental video techniques. The final cut features recorded sound effects with heavy time and frequency manipulation to fit the desired atmosphere of the film. Sounds were recorded using the Zoom H4n Pro and cut to film using Ableton Live.
As part of the UMass Lowell Sound Recording Technology degree, a multitrack production project was completed. This project featured recording and mixing two songs each containing between 24 and 32 tracks. I chose the newly formed Steely Dan Ensemble, who were preparing to perform the album The Royal Scam, as the group that I would record; from the album's tracklist I selected "Kid Charlemagne" and "Everything You Did". Aside from utilizing ProTools as the record media, the project exclusively used analog equipment, and especially featured the API Vision console. To complete this project a deep understanding of signal flow was necessary, in addition to refined critical listening skills.
During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, UMass Lowell instructor Alan Williams put together an ensemble tasked with recreating two Pink Floyd albums in their entirety: Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Though students were not on campus, we were able to record a pseudo-live performance of each album at a nearby studio. Over the course of one weekend per album, and having no prior practice playing together, we recorded in small groups to recreate these classic albums while taking precautions to avoid spreading the virus. For this project my main role was covering the various sound effects that the albums feature, and I was tasked with making this aspect performable using Ableton Live. Additionally, I was able to use my keyboard skils and knowledge to recreate some of the prominent synthesizer solos.
